Gary Hoffman, a Navy veteran, collapsed from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in the choir loft at his church.
Less than 10% of SCA victims survive, but Gary had a different set of odds. His church had a Philips Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and a member of the congregation used the AED within two minutes of Gary's collapse. When an AED is used within 2 minutes of collapse, the chances of survival are more than 75%!
The AED restored a normal rhythm to Gary's heart, before EMS arrived. Gary joins the ranks of SCA survivors who are still with us because an AED.
