Most Visible Save of 2020
One of our objectives is to drive increased awareness of the frequency of cardiac arrest and the saving power of AEDs. While AEDs save lives many times each day, most saves are relatively private affairs.
Each year, we look back at the most visible save of the year. We select the saved life that we believe raised the most awareness and inspired teams of journalists to talk about the importance of AEDs.
This year, we believe the saving of Jay Bouwmeester was most pivotal. Jay was saved on live TV during an NHL game in St. Louis. All NHL teams have an AED on each bench, and responders promptly used the AED to revive Jay. Social media covered the story in force, and people around the country were talking about Jay's save the next day.
We are thrilled by all of the lives that were saved by AEDs in 2020, and we wish Jay and the thousands of other survivors all the best in 2021.
