Christian Eriksen saved during Euro 2020 Championship Game
In June, Denmark’s star midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest during the opening game of the Euro 2020 Championship. Fans around the world watched live as his teammates quickly responded and saved his life with an AED.
Denmark’s team doctor, Morten Boesen pointed out that the fast response and use of an AED was the deciding factor in Eriksen’s survival. He was lucky an AED was readily available, and rapidly used.
Eriksen’s save has driven global awareness of cardiac arrest and the importance of AEDs. Over the last month, we have heard from many soccer fans who have now equipped their businesses and organizations with AEDs, in direct response to having witnessed Eriksen’s save. The Premier League itself responded by funding the installation of more than 2,000 AEDs at soccer clubs and facilities. Many lives will be saved by these devices, and Eriksen’s save is a gift that will keep on giving.
