An AED saved Leah's life
WACO, TX: This past season, Leah Stephenson, a senior at Live Oak Classical School, collapsed from cardiac arrest during a basketball game.
In the final minutes of the game, after Leah had scored 16 points and recovered 10 rebounds, her heart stopped while she was on the court.
Her mother and other parents jumped from their seats. There was an AED 50 feet from where she collapsed, and a bystander grabbed it. It was attached to Leah, and it issued a life saving shock.
The AED had not only revived Leah, it had also recorded the electrical activity in her heart before the shock was issued. This information enabled Leah's physician to prescribe the right long-term care, and it put Leah's family at ease that their course of treatment will prevent this from ever happening again.
